A HANDFUL of Bearsden triathletes were honoured for a string of great performances as they picked up their season championship medals.
A year of gruelling events has seen the youngsters compete from March through to October, in dozens of national competitions.
And the culmination of their efforts were typified in last week’s Triathlon Scotland awards ceremony in Edinburgh last month.
Championship ranking awards went to Georgia Callander, winner girls 13-14; Scott McKay, winner boys 13-14; Daniel McGarrie, winner boys 9-10; and Elliot Duff, runner-up boys 9-10.
Georgia and Scott attend High School of Glasgow. Daniel and Elliot attend Mosshead Primary School.
More than 100 people gathered at the International Climbing Arena (EICA) Ratho, with BBC Scotland presenter and former Scotland rugby international John Beattie presenting the prizes.
The sport of triathlon combines swimming, running and cycling, providing great competition and a big test of endurance and skill.
The sport was one of the first event to sell out of tickets for the London 2012 olympics and continues to grow in popularity for both adults and kids.
The junior athletes attend the local swim team, M&B Amateur Swimming Club and also train at Scotland’s fastest growing triathlon club, Fusion.
The 2011 junior aquathlon championships combined the sports of swimming and running, with 13 events in 2011, held in locations across Scotland.
Kids from aged 8-16 competed in age group categories gathering points towards the overall championship rankings.
