A TALENTED young rower is hoping for a medal at this weekend’s opening season regatta after finishing a boat’s length behind the winners last year.

Kathleen Castell (15) is taking part in five events - two doubles skulls races, two singles skulls races and in a boat of four - at Strathclyde Country Park.

The Boclair Academy pupil from Bearsden, who has been rowing competitively for just over 18 months, said: “I was in the race last year and came a very close second with doubles partner Helena Davison in the woman’s novice double scull, so it would be great to win this year.”

The two day event starts on Saturday and the Glasgow Rowing Club member will compete in three on the first day and the following day will the last two.
