OPHIRA GOTTLIEP (12) from Bearsden won gold in her age category at the British Karate International Open Championship at the Kelvin Hall Glasgow recently.

The Bearsden Academy pupil who trains at Virgin Active in Milngavie - the former Esporta complex - is part of the Kyoto Karate Federation and is seen performing Kata or patterns against an imaginary opponent.

Chief instructor 6th Dan Bill Kerr, said: “Ophira trains very hard and is very focused.

“But above all she is thoughtful, considerate and helpful to others. I am delighted, as all of us are at the club, on her achievement.”

Earlier in the year she won a bronze medal at the Scottish International Open Championship.
