BADMINTON star Imogen Bankier added another glittering award to her list of achievements when she was named Glasgow Sports Person of the Year at Glasgow City Chambers.
The Milngavie sportswoman (24) had some outstanding performances in 2011 - most notably her run to the final of the Yonex BWF World Championships in August last year.
With doubles partner Chris Adcock they won the mixed doubles silver medal at the World Championships, beating the 2nd, 4th, 8th and 15th seeds on the way to the final at Wembley Arena.
The pair are now leading the race for a Wembley return at London 2012 as they stand number 14 in the world, four places ahead of England rivals Nathan Robertson and Jenny Wallwork in the latest BWF world ranking.
Accepting the award on behalf of Bankier, Anne Smillie, chief executive of BADMINTONscotland, said: “Imogen is a credit to our sport and this award is richly deserved. Since she and Chris had their first win together at the Scottish International Championships in November 2010 they have gone from strength to strength.”
She added that they had came so close to gold at Wembley last August and have started the Olympic year very well after beating the Chinese gold medallists for the first time.”
