Balfron curler up against the world's best
CURLING champ Logan Gray is back in action this weekend when he competes with his team in the Ramada Perth Masters Bonspiel Championship — an event which has attracted some of the world's top Olympic medal contenders.
The four-day event, which finishes on Sunday, will see Logan (23) battle it out with team-mates, skip Peter Loudon, Richard Woods and Colin Campbell against more than 30 top teams — half of which will be from Scotland and the remainder made up of international teams from as far afield as Japan and China.
Logan, who is from Balfron and is employed as an area curling development officer by Stirling Council, said: "This is the biggest non-national event and we want to do well in it in the run up to the Scottish Championships at the end of the month."
This will be the 34th year of the event and the standard is expected to be higher than ever.
Team Loudon are playing with confidence at the moment and, according to Logan, their training is also going well.
He added: " At this stage you don't want to be making any major changes to your game. What we are doing now is a bit of fine tuning to give us the best possible chance."
Championship spokesman Bill Duncan revealed he was pleased at the standard of entrants for this year's event.
He said: "We have attracted high quality teams from Sweden, Switzerland, Hungary, Germany, Czech Republic and Norway, but the Scottish talent will be more than a match for them.
"The Chinese team are an unknown quantity and we will be watching the European teams with interest."
Logan added: "Technically the Chinese are very good, but they lack strategy and it will be interesting to see how they get on."
