MILNGAVIE’s Imogen Bankier made a good account of herself despite Scotland bowing out of the European Team Championship quarter-finals in Moscow.

The Scottish badminton team went down 3-0 to holders and top seeds Denmark.

In Monday’s game against the Danes Paul Van Rietvelde and 2011 world silver medalist, Bankier made BWF World Superseries Finals winners Joachim Fischer Nielsen and Christinna Pedersen work for their 21-18 21-17 mixed doubles win.

In the men’s singles Calum Menzies found Hans-Kristian Vittinghus too strong as the Dane won 21-5 21-10.

The Danes then claimed a 3-0 victory as Scotland’s Caitlin Pringle, making her senior international debut after Kirsty Gilmour was rested, went down 21-12 21-12 to Danish prospect Natalia Koch Rhode.

But the Scottish team lived up to their seeding by topping Group 8 with a 5-0 win over Slovakia and a 3-2 victory against the Czech Republic to reach the quarter-finals.

BADMINTONscotland Chief Executive Anne Smillie said: “I would like to congratulate the squad. They faced an impossible task against Denmark, who have been the strongest nation at European level for a long time.
