Archibald is Mexico bound for cycling world cup

Commonwealth bronze medal winning cyclist Katie Archibald has been selected to compete in the UCI World World Cup in Mexico next Saturday.

The Milngavie athlete (20) recently returned from Guageloupe in the Caribbean where she produced stunning performances in the Individual Pursuit and Team Pursuit to take home two golds

Archibald, who flies out to Guadalajara as part of the British squad this Saturday will be joined by fellow Scot Callum Skinner to make up the 17 person squad for what is the first of the three world cup series.

The cyclist said: “Winning gold at the team pursuit and individual has given me some confidence going into the first of the World Cup series.

“There will be some stiff competition. Our biggest rivals will be Canada and Australia and if we can deal with them we should be ok.

“Training has been going well and we have a week to get ready once we get to Mexico. The next in the World Cup series will be in London in December, followed by the last in Columbia in January.”

Gary Coltman, Scottish Cycling’s Head of Performance said: “Both Katie and Callum produced great performances at the UEC Elite Track European Championships in Guadeloupe, so I am delighted to see that they have now been selected for the UCI Track World Cup.”
