Allander Squash teams record disappointing results

Allander Squash 1st team 2

David Lloyd Renfrew 3

Allander were fielding their strongest side but there were doubts about the fitness of Colin McGeady playing at number 2.

This was soon evidenced by a straight 3-0 defeat in a game where Colin found it difficult to move around the court with his usual speed.

Scott Hay at number 2 continued an excellent run, recovered from losing the first game to win soundly 3-1 and remain unbeaten this season.

Jeremy Bushell came close to winning each of the last 3 games but eventually slipped to a 3-1 defeat. Meanwhile Phil Graves at number 5 seemed to have rediscovered his speed and determination, racing back from being 2-0 down and forging ahead to 10-7 up in the final game. Despite signs of exhaustion his opponent pulled together a series of risky but winning shots to get in front and win the last game and the match 3-2. This turned out to be the crucial game which could have given the Allander victory for the night.

Finally Chris McGeady had anotyher typical hard fought game which swung backwards and forwards. He kept his nerve at 2-1 down to win the last two games with points to spare. The results leaves the team sixth and mid-table almost half-way through the season.

Meanwhile the second team playing away to Scotstoun 1 had a challenging match between the top two teams in the division and despite losing 3-2, still leaves Allander strongly placed for promotion.
