A mauling for Milngavie’s Wildcats

Kelburn 7

Western Wildcats 1

National Division 1

KELBURN started brightly and enjoyed much of the possession in the opening period to find themselves two up after just five minutes.

The Wildcats faced an uphill struggle as Kelburn dominated much of the play up to the break. The home side added a third goal before Wildcats forced their first short corner of the match with Andrew Sewnauth hitting the post with his effort.

A second chance came Wildcats’ way when Nial Sommerville got a break of the ball and drove into the circle. All he had to do was beat the Kelburn keeper but he agonisingly put the ball just past the post.

The Wildcats did find the net through a well taken goal from Joe Simpson. With Western sensing a comeback Kelburn added a fourth just before half time.

Into the second half and Kelburn came out fighting again, scoring a fifth goal early on and later on added goals six and seven.

Although there were some poor umpiring decisions this was a game Kelburn deserved to win.

Wildcats never recovered from losing the early goals at the start of the game and had they taken the two chances that they missed in the first half, it could have allowed them back into the game sooner.
