A CHRISTMAS carol written by a Blanefield man 30 years ago attracted worldwide attention during the festive period.
Dougie Campbell, a former Balfron Primary pupil, was 13 when he wrote It’s Christmas Day and it was performed and recorded by pupils at the school.
It was commercially released but didn’t chart and Dougie, now a DJ, made a video of the song and posted it on YouTube.
Dougie created a website around the song and nearly 500 groups from around the world performed it over Christmas.
These ranged from a gospel choir in London to groups across the USA, Europe, India and east Asia, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.
Balfron Primary pupils also sang the carol for the first time since the original recording.
