White Lily fitness fundraiser

A FUN fitness day to be held on Saturday in the Kelvin Hall arena is set to raise funds for local charity the White Lily Fund and you can help boost the takings by joining in the frolics between 9-12noon.

You might not be up for the 100 metre races or the press-up or sit-up tests, but worry not, there are heaps of fun activities for all the family like the three legged race for couples, men and women’s tug-o-war, children’s races, wheelbarrow race, skipping and hool-a-hooping - or you can chill and simply enjoy guessing the weight of the cake, rolling coins and join in other non-exerting fundraising events. Remember it’s all in a great cause and there are great prizes to be won.

The fun day is being organised by Nadia De Marco whose mum Anna was on the original White Lily committee, founded in Bearsden by Angela Bruno and her friend Colette Shevlane in 1994.

Their mission was to fundraise for research and equipment to combat cancer and the efforts of the small but fiercely hardworking committee saw them raise over a million pounds for the cause by 2010.

Since then Friends of White Lily have continued to fundraise for diagnostic and treatment equipment and research through events such the fun da on Saturday and at-home parties and coffee mornings.

The next big fundraiser planned by Angela, Alma Gawish and Pat Tollin is a glam lunch and fashion show on March 17 next year in the Crowne Plaza. Your Herald will carry all the details nearer the time. Meantime White Lily Christmas cards are available from Purple Edge in Bearsden.
