Over 800 people went along to Westerton Gala Day last Saturday (September 6) to enjoy a packed programme of events.
The organisers were thrilled that the sun decided to shine throughout the day for the Commonwealth Games sport themed event but there were also lots of attractions to pull people in as well.
The day started with the one mile fun run around Westerton and there were the usual familiar things such as inflatables, wacky races, craft fair and tea room, but this year saw local sports clubs giving taster sessions thoughout the day, eg. basketball, golf, netball, rowing, gymnastics, and football.
Entertainment was provided on the stage by talented local youngsters - including the three winners of WPS’s Westerton’s Got Talent.
Emma McDougall was crowned Gala Queen and she was accompanied by flower girls Skye Dick, Grace Donaldson, Eve Nowek, Sunny Fletcher, Gauri Prabhaker and Caitlin Murphy.
The event closed with the now traditional, tug o’ war.
One of the organisers, Kim Kilgour, said: “Yet again the people of Westerton and surrounding areas came out in their hundreds to attend what was the busiest gala day ever. The day starts very early for the organising committee and the host of volunteers and finishes very late but it is all worthwhile. Roll on next year!
“We’d also like to say a massive thanks to Maryhill Harriers for their help with the fun run.”
There will be an open feedback meeting at Westerton Bowling Club on Wednesday, September 24 at 7pm.
