We’re not lovin’ it – fury over McDonald’s plans

A COUNCIl by-election will take place in East Dunbartonshire next month.

It’s been called following the sad death of Councillor Charles Kennedy, who passed away on Friday, July 13, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Electors in the Campsie and Kirkintilloch North ward will be asked to vote for a new member on Thursday, September 13.

The council’s SNP group has put forward Billy Hutchison as their candidate.

Labour, Conservative and the Liberal Democrat groups have confirmed they will be selecting candidates and announcing them in due course.

Gerry Cornes, East Dunbartonshire Council’s chief executive and returning officer, said: “Councillor Charles Kennedy will be greatly missed and it is in very sad circumstances that we are announcing this by-election for Campsie and Kirkintilloch North.

“We would urge residents to exercise their right to vote at the by-election.”

At the moment there are eight Labour councillors, eight SNP, three Lib-Dems, two Conservatives, one Independent and one Independent Alliance.
