Have your say

Basking sharks have been an increasingly common sight around the inshore waters of the west of Scotland in recent weeks, with photographers both amateur and professional out hoping to catch a glimpse of these gentle beasts.

This footage was captured by readers Caroline Calder and Ryan Seath off St Ninian’s Bay, on the west coast of the island of Bute, over the weekend, with Caroline saying that one swam under their boat.

Basking sharks have been spotted around the coast of the island over the past few weeks.

“All I know is it was far bigger than the boat!” she added.

Many thanks to Caroline and Ryan for sharing their clips with us, and if you’ve got any photos or videos you’d like to share with our readers please get in touch!

* Likewise, if you’ve spotted any basking sharks around the island’s coastline, please report your sighting to the Marine Conservation Society.
