A church is going back in time to celebrate the 70th anniversary of VE Day in Bishopbriggs.

The social committee at Cadder Parish Church has organised an evening of music, dancing, stories and songs at the hall on Saturday, May 9.

Parishioners and guests will be sharing their memories in a hall decorated for the occasion.

The evening will begin with an old Pathé newsreel featuring Churchill, and go on to evacuee poems, stories and outfits from a war bride, a medley of songs, stories from a farm alongside the barrage balloon base at Bishopbriggs and a 94-year-old former land girl telling her story.

Guests will also hear stories of the Clydebank blitz from people who lived through it and from local people who watched the bombs pass over head. There will also be the tragic tale of an 18-year-old ARP warden in Bishopbriggs who was on duty the night the old school was bombed. Her sweetheart, who she was due to meet later that night, was one of those who died that evening.

Tickets are still available via Cadder Parish Church coffee shop or by visiting www.cadderchurch.org
