Waysiders Drumpellier 0
RBS West League - Div 2
A growing injury list restricted Endrick to a starting line-up of 15 players with only three replacements for Saturday’s league match at Ruth Menzies Field.
The visitors on the other hand had a full complement of seven replacements and intended to use them all.
From the visitors kickoff Endrick won the ball and drove forward but determined defence set the pattern of play for the first quarter of an hour with the teams battling in midfield.
Then Jez Thomas gathered a kick just inside his own half, shrugged off several tacklers and made some good yards before the ball passed through several hands to Kyle Campbell for the opening try. Sam Greenock added the extra.
The game then reverted to a midfield slog, but 10 minutes from the interval Endrick Sam Greenock’s kick went over.
Endrick now enjoyed a good attacking spell but were never quite able to cross the try line. When in 36 minutes they were awarded a penalty 10 metres out they debated whether to run it or kick into the corner. It was finally decided to take the easy points by going for goal and Sam Greenock duly obliged. In the final minute of the half he kept his fine kicking form to land his fourth successful kick - this one a remarkable effort from just inside the touchline.
Endrick’s main task in the second half was to protect their 16 point lead. They had to do it without the sevices of big Stu Campbell whose bulk and stopping power was a handy counter to the visitors well drilled driving maul.
While Endrick’s forwards were most heavily engaged, the backs kept a disciplined shape and gave their opposite numbers no scope at all when they were allowed into the game. The Fintry back division had few chances to shine in an attacking role until seven minutes from time when replacement Ben Anderson chased a clearance, won the ball on halfway and eluded the remaining Waysiders cover to run to the line for the only try of the second half. Sam Greenock again added the conversion to finish the scoring.
