Two Milngavie charities have received a cash boost from Tesco after they were nominated by customers in the community.

St Joseph’s Nursery and Oakburn Park Day Care Centre were nominated to each receive a £500 donation following the store’s recent Helping Hand Competition, launched as part of the stores makeover celebrations.

Barr Construction, the contractors working on the store’s improvements, donated £500 in to the Helping Hand Competition in addition to the £500 that came from the store.

Store manager Maureen Gallagher and her colleagues selected the two organisations following a host of entries made by customers at the store, on Gavin’s Mill Road, and the local Milngavie community.

Jean Aitken from St Joseph’s Nursery and Donna McCallum from Oakburn Park were recently at the store to take part in a cheque presentation and meet the store team.

St Joseph’s Nursery is planning to use its donation towards the general maintenance of the nursery and resources for the children using the facilities.

Mrs Aitken said: “We are delighted and incredibly grateful to receive £500 from the Tesco store in Milngavie, this will make a real difference to St Joseph’s Nursery.”

Oakburn Park Day Care is a flexible service for physically or mentally frail older people, living in the Milngavie and Bearsden area.

With specific days for those who have a diagnosis of dementia, highly trained staff support users to do what they want to do with their day.

Mrs McCallum added: “We would like to offer our sincere thanks to Maureen and the team at Tesco Milngavie for selecting us to receive a share of the Helping Hand donation. The £500 will be put towards arranging some special outings for our service users.”

Mrs Gallagher said: “We were overwhelmed with the response to our Helping Hand competition. After reading all of the nominations, my team and I selected St Joseph’s Nursery and Oakburn Park Day Centre to receive a share of the £1,000 on offer. Both organisations carry out invaluable work in the local area, this was clear from the nomination forms we received. We very much hope our donations will make a difference to both groups.”

The competition celebrates renovation of the store.
