ALMOST a quarter of a milion pounds of compensation has been won for 240 consumers in East Dunbartonshire - according to figures released by the council’s Trading Standards Office.
In the last financial year up to the end of March a record number of 1048 complaints were dealt with, making it the busiest period over the last five years - resulting in a total of £240,689 being distributed to consumers.
Trading standards helped consumers with a range of issues relating to home maintenance, double glazing, furniture and floor coverings, major household appliances and electrical goods and food products as well as an increasing numbers of issues surrounding doorstep selling and online purchases.
Councillor Amanda Stewart, convener of housing and community services, was quick to congratulate the team for its successes on behalf of consumers.
She said: “In responding to more than 1000 complaints from the consumers of East Dunbartonshire, our Trading Standards team is continually trying to promote consumer rights and ensure that businesses operate fairly.
“I’m delighted that record levels of redress have been obtained by this valuable council service during the last year.
“The team does a great job in fighting for the rights of local people”.
