A MILNGAVIE based luxury tour operator has been named as the country’s biggest climbers in a business league table.
If Only... has jumped from 189th place to 83rd in the SME 300 rankings, which measure the success of Scotland’s small to medium sized companies with turnovers between £8m and £20million.
The firm, which employs 44 people at Milngavie Enterprise Centre in Ellangowan Court, achieved the jump thanks to a 10.7 per cent increase in profits last year.
Brendan Maguire, managing director of If Only..., said: “I am delighted that our achievement has been recognised. We are fortunate to regularly receive awards and accolades from our travel industry partners both in the UK and abroad and this recognition from the wider business community is hugely encouraging.
“2011 was a difficult year for the travel industry and If Only... had to work hard to secure business and to improve our market share. Our investment in people, essential in this industry which relies largely on personal relationships, has certainly helped us keep on track. We now have six business development nanagers across the UK who regularly visit travel agents, supporting them with marketing activity and training.
“Our HQ sales team have personally visited just about every property that we offer and this in-depth expertise has helped secure new and has encouraged repeat business. Keeping a focus on three distinct regions of the world, namely Arabia, the Indian Ocean and Southeast Asia, also allows If Only... to specialise and helps us stand out as a key supplier in many destinations.
“2011 was the company’s 10th Anniversary and from a ‘one–man band’ in 2001 we now employ 44 staff at our HQ in Milngavie.
“Originally our core business was from Scotland and while we maintain and appreciate our loyal client base here we are seeing much of our growth in business coming from the South of England and the Midlands.”
