Top marks for careers evenings

A SERIES of careers evenings for the parents and carers of pupils in East Dunbartonshire thinking of leaving school this summer has attracted universal praise from those who attended.

Around 60 families turned up to events held at the Skills Development Scotland (SDS) careers centre on the East Dunbartonshire Campus of Higher Education in Kirkintilloch and in the Milngavie Youth Café.

SDS careers adviser Barbara Black said: “The events were organised by SDS to give parents and carers the chance to talk to SDS and local partners about what each of us can do to help young people make the transition from school to employment, further learning or training.

“We had representation from local colleges, volunteering agencies, the Princes Trust and a range of Get Ready for Work training providers and the response was overwhelmingly positive.”
