Tennis stars win Drum tourney

TALENTED stars from Bearsden Lawn Tennis Club were crowned overall winners at the 64th Drumchapel Inter-Club Tournament recently.

The club scooped four senior titles along with two second-place finishes in the junior ranks.

The two finalists then teamed up to take the Men’s Doubles title when they beat Glasgow University’s John Bennett and Hugh Shields in straight sets (6-2, 6-2).

Ross then completed a double of his own when he paired with Karen Crawford to pip Glasgow University’s Ruth and John Bennett to the Mixed Doubles crown.

Bearsden’s Dr Emma Wright also claimed the Women’s Singles title with victory over the GU’s Dr Jenny Morton.

Youngster Sam Pointon finished runner-up to Drumchapel’s Ben Mazzucco in the Junior Boys Under 16s Singles final.

Elsewhere, Rachel Taylor took second place in the Junior Girls Under 16s Singles section.
