THE positive impact that the internet and new technology have had for people with dementia has been celebrated at an outdoor exhibition.
Part of Glasgow’s famous Sauchiehall Street has been turned into a street gallery through the Our Digital Planet project which showcases work from East Dunbartonshire Council, amongst others.
Running until Wednesday, November 26, from 10.30am till 4pm, the gallery will exhibit images and a short film about a project called ‘Faces of Dementia’ which all East Dunbartonshire care homes took part in earlier this year.
The film shows people with dementia using the latest tablet technology to design self portraits and unleash their creativity and self expression.
Councillor Michael O’Donnell said: “As a council, we are committed to making East Dunbartonshire a dementia friendly community and we’re delighted to be involved in this latest initiative.
“We hope that by showing the film and displaying images at the outdoor gallery, we’ll be raising wider awareness and understanding of dementia, while showing the important part technology can play in care and support.
“Not everyone is aware of how the internet and technology can benefit people with dementia and this gallery might just alert them to opportunities that could benefit someone they know.”
