SCOTTISH folk music legends the Alexander Brothers have retired following a glittering career that has spanned 54 years.
Tom (77) from Bearsden, and Jack (76) from Prestwick, originally came from Cambusnethan near Wishaw and scored chart hits in the 1960s with Nobody’s Child and These Are My Mountains. Nobody’s Child out-sold The Beatles north of the border when it was released in 1964.
The decision to stop performing was taken after the brothers had to cancel gigs due to ill health.
Tom said: “Jack has not been well recently and we wanted to be remembered in the right way. We wanted to finish on a high note and not tarnish what we had achieved.”
The brothers had their own TV series for many years and appeared on the legendary Sunday Night at the Palladium, even co-starring with Dame Shirley Bassey.
