The search is on for sporting heroes who make a difference in communities around East Dunbartonshire.

The 2015 Club, Coach and Volunteer Awards are being organised by East Dunbartonshire Leisure and Culture (EDLC) Trust to highlight the tremendous work taking place locally.

Nominations are being sought and people have until September 21 to ensure their sporting heroes are in the mix.

Forms can be downloaded from www.eastdunbarton.gov.uk or picked up at Trust leisure venues, libraries and East Dunbartonshire Voluntary Action in Kirkintilloch.

Councillor Alan Moir, Convener of Development and Regeneration, said: “East Dunbartonshire is blessed with some of the most inspirational, hard-working and knowledgeable sport coaches and volunteers.

“These people - and their clubs - are exceptional and deserve every recognition possible for the tremendous work they do in local communities - encouraging people of all ages to get active and involved in sport.”

Scott Hill, Chair of EDLC Trust, added: “I hope as many people as possible take the opportunity to nominate their sporting inspirations - be they clubs, coaches or volunteers.

“We’re looking for shining stars who have inspired, supported and nurtured sporting people of all ages and from all backgrounds.”

Completed forms must be returned by September 21. They can be e-mailed to stuart.alexander@eastdunbarton.gov.uk or posted to Stuart Alexander, Coach and Volunteer Awards, Kirkintilloch Leisure Centre, Woodhead Park,Kirkintilloch G66 3DD.

Meanwhile, funding support is on offer to clubs and schools in East Dunbartonshire.

EDLC’s Funding Forum aims to help people find the right funding stream for their club, school, coaches and volunteers.

Councillor Moir said: “There are many sources of funding available for sports clubs and organisations from small grants - helping grassroots sports projects to purchase new equipment, train new coaches or attract new members to bigger grants to improve existing, or provide new, sports facilities.”

The Funding Forum takes place on September 7 from 6.30pm-8.30pm in Bishopbriggs Academy. It is free for ‘hub clubs’ or £5 per club or school (maximum of four people).

Booking forms are available at Trust venues. You can also call 0141 578 8459 or visit www.edlc.co.uk
