Retired minister steps up to help congregation

He retired earlier this year, but the Reverend Douglas Clark is now back in the pulpit to help out a church congregation.

The former minister at Lenzie Old Parish Church has been appointed as locum minister at Cadder Parish Church, in Bishopbriggs, covering two days a week pastoral care and most of the Sunday services.

He is also chaplain at HMS Prison Barlinnie in Glasgow’s east end.

Mr Clark took up the temporary post at Cadder when the minister there, the Reverend Graham Finch, stepped down recently after 16 years.

He and his wife Louise have now moved to Kirkcudbright in Dumfries and Galloway.

The church hopes a replacement for Mr Finch can be found within the next year.

Mr Clark said: “I am still enjoying conducting worship and pastoral care. I have gone from full-time ministry to part-time ministry at Cadder and I expect to be there during their vacancy.”

Interim Moderator Martin Forrest said: “I’m very pleased that the Reverend Douglas Clark has agreed to be our locum.

“He will be leading most of the Sunday services and also providing pastoral support for two days each week.”
