FOLLOWING a busy Christmas period for NHS Scotland staff, the public are being reminded of the four-day GP surgery closures this coming weekend.
While GP practices re-opened earlier this week, they will close again tomorrow until January 4.
There are several key steps for those vulnerable to winter ilnesses to consider: restock your winter medicine cabinet; use your local pharmacy; make sure you have repeat prescriptions; and know when your GP surgery will be open.
Professor George Crooks, medical director at NHS 24, said: “While NHS Scotland staff have been very busy over the Christmas weekend, it is important that people remember there is another four day closure of GP practices over Hogmanay.
“It’s important that people know the opening times of their local pharmacy too and make use of the next couple of days to re-stock with simple home remedies to ensure they can look after themselves and their family if needed.
“Knowing you have remedies at home to help if a winter illness does strike can make all the difference and if your symptoms worsen, you could look for self-care advice at www.nhs24.com or contact NHS 24.”
