Severe Weather - service disruptions Thursday, December 8 – 1pm update
The latest update on localised weather for East Dunbartonshire is that we are currently experiencing gusts of around 65-75mph and we are expecting gusts of around 75-85mph between 2pm and 4pm. Service updates are provided below.
Roads and Neighbourhood Services
Refuse and recycling have now stopped due to the severity of the weather and the landfill and recycling sites that we use have advised us that they are closed. Any bins and boxes currently out awaiting collection should now be brought bring back in. We are currently planning contingency measures for collections on Friday and Saturday and we will provide an update on this.
The Winter Maintenance team is prepared and ready to attend to emergency situations on our roads, such as dealing with fallen trees.
Fleet services are still in place to provide emergency transport.
Education - Schools and Local Authority Nurseries
All Schools and Local Authority Nurseries are closed with a skeleton staff in place to attend to any vulnerable children or children who are waiting for parents to collect them.
Day care centres are to close by 12 noon and transport is currently being put in place for customers.
Home care services – local risk assessments have been carried out to determine the needs of vulnerable home care customers. Emergency arrangements have been put in place.
Lunch club meals and meals on wheels were delivered today.
Housing repairs – we are now carrying out emergency repairs only and no pre-planned maintenance will be carried out today.
Community Lets - schools and halls
All lets for schools and halls are now cancelled for today.
East Dunbartonshire Leisure and Culture Trust
All Leisure and Culture Trust facilities, such as leisure centres, libraries, museums and other Trust venues closed at 12 noon.
Committees and Meetings
The Council’s Social Work Committee scheduled for this evening is now cancelled.
All Council buildings are now closed to the public.
The current localised weather forecast for tomorrow is for normal winter conditions so we anticipate the resumption of normal services but we will provide an update on the situation this evening.
