BEARSDEN Golf Club is the last place you’d expect to find Rab C Nesbitt’s long-suffering wife Mary Doll - but clubhouse regulars had to check what was in their drinks when she turned up recently.
Elaine C Smith - who plays Mary Doll - was at the golf club filming an episode of the award winning tv series due to be aired this autumn.
And the production company, The Comedy Unit who are making the series for the BBC, even managed to rope in a few of the golfers as extras.
Club secretary Brian Sutton, said: “The Comedy Team filming the series chose us because of the nature of the clubhouse with its direct views of the course and good local access.
“The whole thing went very smoothly, with six of our senior members and two bar staff taking part in one of the scenes set in the restaurant.”
The extras were Jeff Hutton, Bill Pollock, Jim Graham, Alan Donnelly, Pat Buchanan and Bill Cumming. The bar staff were Maggie Prior and Megan McColl.
Brian added: “I was approached by the production company and their head of locations came along and had a look around.
“They really liked the huge windows and the light in here.
“I put a notice up on the board for golfers to act as extras, and as they say, the rest is history.”
Retired accountant Jeff Hutton (72) from Mosshead, Bearsden joked that all the extras were as equally bad, adding: “I gave a captivating performance. It was my first and probably my last time as a extra.”
