RESIDENTS in the villages are being warned about the latest phone scam in the area.
Householders have reported receiving a telephone call from a person claiming to be from BT and demanding immediate payment to prevent their phone being cut off due to an unpaid bill.
The caller claims to be able to demonstrate that they are from BT by temporarily cutting off the phone but in fact they just put the call on mute and remain on the line to prevent the person from making any outgoing calls. They then ask for credit or debit card details.
The police are warning people not to supply their personal details or bank details to anyone who calls you at home. A spokesman said: “Reputable companies and organisation will never ask for this. If you are in any doubt about a caller terminate the conversation.”
