THE Glasgow Phoenix Choir is going to perform The Glory of Christmas at The Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on Friday, December 14 at 7.30pm.
Conducted by Bearsden lady Marilyn J Smith MBE, the choir, which rose out of the ashes of the world famous Glasgow Orpheus Choir, celebrates 111 years of choral excellence this year - 50 years of the Glasgow Orpheus Choir and 61 years of the Glasgow Phoenix Choir.
It is one of the UK’s most successful, widely travelled, mixed voice choirs and guests at the concert include the championship winning Co-operative Funeralcare Band conducted by Allan Ramsay and The Aberdeen Chorus of Sweet Adelines International choir, musical director Gwen Topp.
The choir performs over 40 concerts per year, taking their special blend of choral music on tour twice a year, in the UK and Europe.
Their reputation continues to grow, performing traditional choral pieces from sacred to modern, including music from the movies and shows.
They recorded a series of CDs live at Iona Abbey including a special souvenir postcard CD, which can be sent worldwide and a further live CD performance of Faure’s Requiem.
Their popular recording of Songs of Solace, which was recently awarded a gold disc, will be on sale at the concert and due to popular demand, they have recorded another CD of popular Phoenix songs which will be available later in the year.
The choir is sponsored by Co-Operative Funeralcare and has raised over £1.5 million for many charities which resulted in the award of the Paul Harris Fellowship from Rotary International.
Tickets cost £5/£8/£10/£12/£15 from GRCH Box Office, phone 0141 353 8000
