PARKIN’S Place for Music begins its autumn season at the Fraser Centre on Saturday.
The venue was set up by friends of the much loved and talented Milngavie musician, Erne Parkin, in his memory and to raise money for his favourite charity.
Guest artist is Glasgow based singer/songwriter and country blues guitarist, Jim Byrne, with his blend of acoustic, bluesy Scottish contemporary folk and alternative songs of love, heartbreak and the Scottish weather. His latest release ‘Every Day is Sunshine’ was critically acclaimed by the UK press and was the CD of the Week on Celtic Music Radio. He is an experienced and entertaining live performer and has played at many folk, blues and guitar festivals. In addition to his own shows he has supported artists such as Benny Gallagher (of Gallagher and Lyle), Blues performers Hans Theessink, Whizz Jones and Celtic Rock Band, The Electrics.
Jim’s talented guitar and double bass duo will accompany him on stage.
The Place resident musicians, currently Joe and David Murray, Karen McCabe and Mary Lou Graham will also perform.
Profits will go to the Suzy Fund (www.suzyfund.org) which helps Aids orphans in Ethiopia.
Doors open 7.30pm. Tickets £8 (concessions £6) from Iron Chef and Milngavie Bookshop.
