COMMUNITY spirited volunteers turned up to help do a litter pick-up at Tesco in Milngavie recently.

The Big Spring Clean event was organised by Milngavie in Bloom in co-ordination with the Beautiful Scotland Campaign and everyone met outside Gavin’s Mill.

It was a fine dry evening and 20 Tesco staff members were a welcome addition to the team and they have promised to help with litter clean ups more often. Local boy and girl scouts helped as well as a large contingent from Milngavie Youth Centre and enthusiastic young children who went along with their mums.

Thirty five heavy bags of rubbish were collected, consisting mainly of bottles and cans. However, three doors were also taken out of the Allander River.

Milngavie In Bloom wish to thank all the volunteers who took part in this event and they are grateful to Gregg’s bakery for the caramel shortbread and Tesco for the hot drinks and cakes afterwards.
