The Oak Tree Inn, Balmaha has reached the final of the Scottish License Trade News Awards in the Independent Pub Bar category.

Run by Sandy Fraser (57) and his family, the judges whittled down hundreds of entries from throughout Scotland to three finalalists which include Sygn in Edinburgh and Vodka Wodka in Glasgow.

Judges were particularly impressed with the Oak Tree which is now making their own beer and cider available in the bar. The finals will be held at a red carpet do at the the Glasgow Hilton on November 1. Last year Sandy’s business won a Catering In Scotland (CIS) Excellence award.

Sandy (pictured), who built the Oak Tree Inn in October 1997, said: “After such a good year winning the CIS Excellence Awards in 2011, we are very excited to have been shortlisted once again for such a prestigious award.”

The best independent pub/bar category is sponsored by Kopparberg cider.
