Janet Stewart, from New Kilpatrick Church, Bearsden, Carole MacRae, manager of New Kilpatrick Nursery, and member of staff Elaine Jeffrey celebrate with children from the nursery after they received the Eco-Schools bronze award.

Children, parents and staff have worked hard over the last year to recycle, reduce, repair and re-use to meet certain criteria to achieve this accolade.

An eco committee was set up and the children look after the outdoor environment, collect litter, recycle paper, plastic, batteries, stamps and spectacles.

They also learned about the water cycle, healthy eating and completed a transport survey and helped to grow potatoes, plants and flowers.

The nursery also created its own eco-code and has drawn up an action plan for future eco work during 2011/2012.

Carole MacRae said: “We could not have achieved this award without the invaluable help, support and advice from Bearsden Primary School and New Kilpatrick Church.”
