NURSERY CLOSURE AGONY

Final day at Kilmardinny Nursery
Final day at Kilmardinny Nursery

A WELL-LOVED nursery has gone bust - leaving the owner penniless and the three members of staff looking for new jobs.

Helen Macgibbon closed the doors at Kilmardinny Nursery last Friday after running it at the West of Scotland Rugby Club’s Burnbrae premises for more than 20 years.

She had previously run Milngavie’s first private nursery for six years from premises that are now Bearsden Golf Range.

The loss has left the businesswoman devastated as she has not just lost her way of life but all her assets - including her house and car - to pay creditors.

Generations of youngsters have been through her nursery but changes in Government funding in April, dwindling numbers of pre-school kids - combined with rent of £2,500 a month - has meant continuing to balance the books became increasingly difficult.
