More than 150 jobs will be created when a new supermarket opens its doors in Milngavie next week.
The new Waitrose store will open at 8am next Thursday, June 11.
David Sharp, branch manager, said: “After much anticipation it’s the final week until we open the doors of Waitrose Milngavie.
“Over the past two months we’ve been working hard to complete partner training and organising suppliers. Now the team can’t wait to welcome customers and local residents, many of whom have shown great support and watched the site transform into our new store over the past year.”
Customers will be treated to a bag containing the Waitrose Weekend magazine on the opening day, which features a design by St Joseph’s Primary School pupil Anastasia McLaughlin (8).
Her illustration, which represents what she loves most about Milngavie, won a competition which received hundreds of entries, and is now on 5,000 specially commissioned bags.
David added: “We’re particularly excited to have Anastasia to help us open the branch. We were wowed by the many great entries to our competition and we would like to thank all the schools that took part.”
In a first for Waitrose in the UK, the Milngavie branch will have a dedicated community room that is free to use for charities.
All drawings submitted for the competition will be on display in the community room after the opening.
