EAST Dunbartonshire Violence against Women Multi Agency Partnership, currently known as the East Dunbartonshire VAWMAP, is looking for a new name to help raise awareness of the important work it carries out.

The Scottish Government requires every local authority area to have this sort of partnership.

The aims of the MAP are to help prevent violence against women, to protect women and children from the effects of domestic abuse, to provide services to help women and children recover and to ensure policy in this area is shaped by the experiences and needs of those who use support services.

The council is a partner in the East Dunbartonshire VAWMAP and Council Leader Rhondda Geekie firmly supports the work the group carries out.

She said: “This group brings together a number of key agencies that do excellent work to prevent domestic abuse and other gender based violence and also support those who have been victims of such violence.

“The group is currently developing a new strategy and has decided that a new and more easily understood name could help to raise the profile of the work that is carried out.”

Chair of East Dunbartonshire VAWMAP, Julie Leonard is keen for anyone with a creative flair to come up with a name that encapsulates all that the group has been set up for.

She said: “We are looking for a one or two word name that captures the essence of the work that we do, building on the strength and resilience of women who experience domestic abuse and gender based violence.

“I’d encourage everyone to put their thinking caps on and help us to come up with a name that encompasses what we do and that will also help to raise the profile of this area of support that is available.”

The competition winner will receive a gorgeous pamper box of skin care treats from Temple Spa and a delicious fresh fruit and vegetable hamper from the East Dunbartonshire Food Coop.

Competition entries should be submitted to Julie Leonard, Chair, East Dunbartonshire VAWMAP, 24 Crossveggate, Milngavie, Glasgow G62 6RA or email julieleonard@edamh.org.uk. Please provide your name and day-time contact number, address and email address.

Closing Date for entries is 5pm, Friday May 24. Winning entries will be selected by a panel of judges from the East Dunbartonshire Violence against Women Multi Agency Partnership.

The winning entry will then be adopted as the new name for the MAP, and incorporated into a new logo to feature on all future promotional and marketing material.
