A NEW centre for dementia sufferers in Bearsden was officially opened by Bearsden MP Jo Swinson and Alzheimer Scotland’s chief executive Henry Simmons.
The charity’s resource facility at 49 Milngavie Road will provide information, advice and support in a relaxed and welcoming environment.
It is a key part of Alzheimer Scotland’s vision to ensure that dementia sufferers and their families do not feel isolated by offering personal and day care, carer support groups and information.
Ms Swinson said: “I was delighted to help launch this as it will make a difference to the thousands of local people whose lives are touched by dementia.
“It marks a great improvement in local services for the nearly 2000 local dementia sufferers and their families and carers, many of whom can feel isolated and unsupported when dealing with this devastating illness. I hope the new centre will lead the way in providing advice, support, and raising awareness of dementia here in East Dunbartonshire.”
Mr Simmons said: “We have an enthusiastic and dedicated local team and I am sure they’ll be able to make a real difference to the lives of people with dementia and their families in the community.”
