SOME of the volunteers from Milngavie’s new credit union with one of the organisers Dorothy Parkin (front), Councillor Eric Gotts (left) and MP Jo Swinson (right).

The union, which is open every Friday from 10am to midday in the Fraser Centre in the precinct, was set up by members of the Justice and Peace Group from St Joseph’s Church, Milngavie, to help people who are struggling with money during the economic downturn.

They approached Drumchapel Credit Union to ask if they could set up a satellite office in the village to offer loans at reasonable rates to local residents.

Drumchapel Credit Union offers an APR of 15 per cent at present. To join the credit union you need to take along proof of identity, recent proof of address and a minimum of £5 to open an account.
