Milngavie Music Club opens its 75th season at Cairns Church on October 14 with a concert by the one of Europe’s finest string quartets, the Cremona Quartet (Quartetto di Cremona), who won great acclaim for their Milngavie concert two years ago.

They have been compared to the famous Italian Quartet which has been described as “one of the greatest quartets of all time”.

The quartet will perform great music by Puccini, Mozart and Beethoven.

The season continues In November with the young French group who won the 2015 London International String Quartet Competition, the Van Kuijk Quartet. In December, the outstanding Russian cellist, Karine Georgian, is accompanied by John Lenehan. Three of Scotland’s finest musicians, Yann Ghiro, Naomi Pavri and Fali Pavri - respectively clarinet, cello and piano - play Beethoven and Brahms in January. In March Alison McGillivray and David McGuinness present charming and seldom heard music from the 17th and 18th centuries in Scotland. Alasdair Beatson, one of Scotland’s most outstanding pianists, offers a fascinating programme of familiar and unfamiliar pieces in the club’s March concert.

The season ends in April with a special event to begin the club’s 75th Anniversary celebrations. It features “The Soldier’s Tale” by Stravinsky, performed by Music Co-OPERAtive Scotland and members of East Dunbartonshire Children’s Chorus and Youth Choir – a marvellous synthesis of music, drama and dance. To go with it, composer Peter Kemp will work with local children and community groups to create and perform “A Milngavie Tale” based on events from Milngavie’s history and springing from Stravinsky’s work. Waitrose Milngavie is supporting this concert with a major grant from the John Lewis Partnership’s Music Matters fund.

A season ticket (seven concerts) costs £65 (full time students £25). Single tickets £12 (full time students £5, school children free) are available from The Iron Chef, Milngavie, or at the door on the night. For more information phone 0141 942 3102 or download a brochure from www.milngaviemusic.org
