Tesco in Milngavie is celebrating its new look by giving shoppers the chance to decide how a £1,000 donation is spent within the community.

The store on Gavin’s Mill Road launched a competition called Tesco Helping Hand, on September 2 to coincide with the unveiling of it’s new services and product ranges.

Changes to the store include a new pizza counter, take away food counter, salad bar and American food selection, alongside a new Costa Coffee shop and Fred and Florence clothing ranges.

The in-store competition offers people the chance to nominate a local school, charity or organisation to receive a share of £1,000.

To nominate all customers have to do is fill in an entry form and post it in one of the entry boxes provided.

Store manager, Maureen Gallagher, and her colleagues will select the winners once the competition closes on September 22.

Maureen said: “We have made the changes in store for our customers and so we felt it was important to involve them in our re-launch celebrations. The competition is about giving our shoppers the chance to tell us which organisations they would like to see Tesco support in their community.

“We hope to receive a good selection of entries and urge our shoppers to come forward and nominate the organisations which mean the most to them within the Milngavie area.”

She added: “The changes to the store mean that customers will now have far more choice whilst still experiencing the same great customer service and value for money.

“So far we have received great feedback on the changes which have been made and look forward to hearing from many more of our shoppers. We hope that everyone will come to see for themselves over the next few weeks and also take the opportunity to enter the Helping Hand competition.”

Tesco originally had plans to build a new Extra store but campaigners set up a group and fought against this as they argued that a new, larger store would suck the life out of Milngavie Precinct and threaten the future of local businesses who are already struggling to survive due to the economic downturn.

Campaign group, We Like Milngavie, welcomed the refurbishment of the existing store and said they would be keen to work with Tesco in the future for the mutual benefit of the store and community in the long term.

Store opening hours are now 6am to midnight Monday to Friday, 6am to 10pm on Saturday and 8am to 10pm on Sunday.
