Major search of river after fears someone is in the water

Emergency services have launched a major search around the River Clyde in Glasgow city centre today (Friday) amid fears someone was spotted in the water.

Ambulances, the police and the fire service have all been in attendance at the incident, near Springfield Quay, since approximately 5.30am.

A search and rescue coastguard helicopter has also been spotted.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Police are currently searching an area in the River Clyde near to Springfield Quay.

“The search has been ongoing for a few hours.”
