ELECTIONS were held last week for representatives on the Scottish Youth Parliament the smaller East Dunbartonshire Youth Council.

Gordon Currie, Head of Education announced the results last week after one of the highest turnouts in Scotland with more than 5,952 SYP voters aged 12-25 casting their vote.

Cameron Smyth was elected for Clydebank and Milngavie and Callum McNally and Rachel Crawford will represent Strathkelvin and Bearsden.

In the East Dunbartonshire Youth Council (EDYC) elections, which represents the collective voice of young people in the local area, the youth councillors are voted for by young people aged 12-18 from their school catchment area.

The representatives are: Boclair Academy: Yaser Razouk and Lewis Keller; Douglas Academy: Drew McMichael and Emily Locke; Bearsden Academy (uncontested – automatic selection) Jacob Mitten and Emily Grossart

Councillor Maureen Henry, Vice Convenor of Education, said: “The turnout for the election was excellent and I would like to thank all the candidates for all their hard work during the election and of course everyone who took the time to cast their vote. These elections are important in that they allow these newly elected young people to represent the view of their peers.”
