COUNCIL staff will be transferred from Bearsden and Milngavie to Kirkintilloch as part of a major cash saving drive.
Boclair House in will be vacated and could be sold off and workers at the Grange 1 building will also have to move.
It is hoped that the relocation will save cash-strapped East Dunbartonshire Council almost £200,000 annually.
Boclair House in Bearsden, pictured, is where the authority’s education services staff are based and Grange 1 in Milngavie houses community safety and partnership, the environmental food group, health and safety and trading standards.
Between now and the end of next April, staff will be transferred to Southbank House in Kirkintilloch. They will be joined by teachers’ welfare workers from Woodhall House in Bishopbriggs.
Councillor Billy Hendry, convener of the council’s development and infrastructure committee, said: “As part of the council’s continuing efforts to operate more efficiently, three buildings will be vacated with more than 100 employees moving to other premises.
“Between now and the end of the financial year, these accommodation changes will save the Council around £93k. From April 2012, the annual saving will be £187k.
“Employees from Boclair House in Bearsden, Grange 1 in Milngavie and Woodhall House in Bishopbriggs will move over the coming months, mainly to Southbank House in Kirkintilloch with a few going to join teams in other council buildings.
“Faced with finding huge savings, the council is looking at every part of the organisation to identify where savings can be found.
“These changes will bring significant savings with minimal disruption to service users.
“No decisions have been made about the future of the three buildings. This will be agreed through the council’s asset review process with reports being prepared by officers for councillors’ consideration.”
