Wobbly Williams needs your help

THE founder of the ‘Wobbly Williams’ website, which offers hope and support to people with Parkinson’s Disease, is urging people to take part in a fun event this summer to raise much-needed cash for the cause.

Bryn Williams (41) from Bearsden, was diagnosed with the condition in September 2001 aged just 36 - and within three months he’d set up the website because he felt there was a lack of help and information online about Parkinson’s for sufferers.

Since then he and his supporters have raised £550,000 through a variety of fundraising events including an expedition to Tanzania last year to climb Mount Kilimanjaro and the money raised from this went to his own charity - Funding Neuro - to carry out clinical trials of a drug.

This year’s Wobbly Walk in June will be along the coast of the Isle of Man, with an excursion up Snaefell.

Bryn, who lives in Roman Drive with his wife Vicky and two daughters Ella (10) and Rebecca (9) hopes that lots of people will take part in this fun but challenging event.

He said: “I dreamt about racing around the island in the TT motorbike event but instead of that I’m going to hobble around on foot.

“We’re primarily doing this to raise awareness of Parkinson’s Disease and any money we raise will also be put to a good cause.

“So far about 12 people have said they will take part and we’d love to hear from others who fancy joining us.”

The plan is to arrive in Castletown on Sunday, June 9 and the following day they will walk 12 miles from there to Port Erin. On Tuesday they will walk from Port Erin to Peel (13 miles) on Wednesday from Peel to Douglas (10 miles) on Thursday participants can either climb Snaefell (or take the train up) and on Friday they will walk from Douglas to Castletown (13 miles).

To take part you will need to make your own way to the island and accommodation will be in B&Bs between £30 and £45 per night. They will pay deposits and then you settle up on the morning of departure. They will also book luggage transfers. You pay for your own food etc.

If you are interested send a cheque for £100 per person to cover deposits payable to Bryn Williams to 4 Roman Drive, Bearsden, Glasgow, G61 2QL.
