West Highland Way steps are out of order says councillor

A MILNGAVIE councillor has highlighted a potential hazard at the beginning of the world famous West Highland Way.
Councillor Jim Gibbons says that walkers contacted him to warn him that a set of steps near the library at the start of the path are in a dangerous condition with loose slabs.
Walkers are also using loose bricks as stepping stones across a huge muddy puddle at the bottom of them.
Councillor Gibbons said: “The state of the path at this point is quite worrying. There has been an attempt to tape it off, but walkers are just ignoring it.
“I am concerned that someone will go over on their ankle before something is done about it.
“The walking season is not far away now and it would be good if the start of the Way was looked at for any other problems such as the graffiti at the back of Greggs.”
Head of East Dunbartonshire’s roads and neighbourhood services, David Devine, said: “The council will be carrying out a number of improvements to its section of the West Highland Way during February and March.
“This includes strengthening the steps leading to the community centre and houses in Milngavie to make them easier to navigate.”
