Unemployment falls in East Dunbartonshire
LOCAL MP Jo Swinson has welcomed new figures showing a drop in unemployment in East Dunbartonshire.
The number of local residents on Job Seekers Allowance in December 2012 was 920, down 50 from November 2011 and 140 from December 2011.
Job prospects in the area were helped by the Get East Dunbartonshire Working campaign, which helped secure 109 job and training opportunities.
Ms Swinson said of the figures: “This great news on the job front locally is a positive sign that East Dunbartonshire’s economy is a healthy one.
“And the Job Centre figures on Get East Dunbartonshire Working show that work experience can lead to employment.
“I’m currently planning two events for local businesses, one on trade and investment and one on business lending, to make sure companies know what support is available to boost growth and help create jobs and apprenticeships.”
