Callous thieves have stolen lead from the roof of a church for the fifth time in recent years causing thousands of pounds worth of damage.
The theft took place at New Kilpatrick Church, in Manse Road, Bearsden.
Reverend Roddy Hamilton, minister at the church – pictured – said: “When lead was stolen previously we replaced it with zinc alloy to discourage further thefts, but unfortunately they’ve found some of the remaining lead. It’s the amount of money we spend fixing it each time - it costs thousands of pounds – and there are other more worthwhile ways we could spend that money.
“It’s infuriating that we seem to experience a major theft every nine months to a year. The culprits will only get a couple of hundred pounds when they sell it – is it really worth it?”
The latest theft took place between Friday and Sunday, August 8 and 10.
Chief Inspector Rob Hay, area commander for East Dunbartonshire, said: “The theft of metals is an increasing problem nationwide.
“Gangs of organised criminals can be involved and they think nothing of targeting places of worship.”
Anyone with information about the theft can contact Constable Jennifer Murray on the non-emergency number 101, or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
