Families living in the Killermont area of Bearsden were being pestered by rats which were infesting a dump beside their homes.

The dumping area was situated near some shops between Killermont and Clunie Drive and was being used by a landscape gardening company to deposit loads of dirt and rubble at the site.

Householders complained that the area was an eyesore and that it would have a detrimental effect on the price of their houses.

One resident, 82-year-old Jean Poulton, whose property looked directly onto Clunie Drive, said she had seen rats in her garden on a number of occasions.

In response the council arranged for its rodent officer to deal with the problem.
