A day of sporting fun for children of all ages is going to be held next month at East Dunbartonshire’s first ever Sport Rocks! Festival.
The event on Saturday, June 7 at Milngavie and Bearsden Sports Club, Auchenhowie Road, Milngavie from 11.30am to 4pm is the brainchild of Bearsden Primary School’s Fundraising Group.
It will tap into the excitement ahead of Glasgow’s hosting of the 2014 Commonwealth Games at the end of July and is open to pre-school and primary school children, mums, dads, grannies and grandads!
The aim is to get families to try new sports from tennis and judo to golf, archery and fencing in their local communities.
Mum of three Adele Crothall, an organiser of Sport Rocks and member of Bearsden Primary School’s Fundraising Group, said: “We have been planning Sport Rocks! since January and it is likely to be the biggest event we have had to date. It just keeps on growing and is very exciting. It is no longer just a school fundraiser but has now become a community event which is fantastic. Local businesses have been incredibly generous with sponsorship and this has allowed us to stage the event.”
Brian Long, head coach at Pro Judo, and Alan Boyd, coach at Rangers Soccer Schools Murray Park, will both be providing taster sessions. Visit www.sportrocks.bearsdenprimary-frg.org for more information and to buy tickets - £4 adults, £3 children (under 2 go free).
